Breast Uplift (Mastopexy)

A breast uplift, or mastopexy procedure, involves the removal of excess skin of the breast and elevation of the nipple areola complex to the correct position on your chest wall, above the crease of your breast. The volume of your breast itself is not reduced, rather the envelope holding your breast tissue is lifted back to an appropriate position giving a more youthful, fuller appearance with improved shape and projection of your breast.

Frequently Asked Questions

A bilateral breast uplift procedure takes approximately two hours to perform. It will involve the removal of excess skin and the placement of dissolvable sutures to bring the new, higher breast together. Every effort is made to make the incisions and final shape/size of your breasts as symmetrical as possible, however it must be remembered that no two breasts are perfectly symmetrical. Drains are not required for this procedure. The incision lines around the areola and underside of the breast are covered with steri-strips, and a splash-proof dressing. A breast uplift procedure can be performed either as a day case surgery or include a one night overnight stay.

I would advise you to take at least one to two weeks off work following breast uplift procedure and to avoid any strenuous physical exertion for 6 weeks. This includes gym classes and any upper limb-based exercise. Lower limb exercise such as walking and treadmill is encouraged after the first week.

You will be placed in a supportive post operative bra, and I ask that you wear this day and night for 6 weeks as it reduces swelling and allows the breast tissue to heal. You may need to take simple painkillers such as paracetamol regularly for the first week as you recover. It is not advised to drive for two weeks after a breast uplift procedure and to check with your insurer for any specific advice.

It is important to have a good understanding of the volume of your breasts and how they will appear after the uplift procedure. Over time, the breasts can become emptier, and Mr Kenny will assess your underlying volume and what can be expected after. Some women opt to undergo an augmentation procedure at the same time which most often involves the placement of an implant behind the breast tissue to increase the volume of the breast. This can also be done using fat transfer without an implant in suitable candidates. All of this will be discussed at length with you during your consultation.

If over 40, an up-to-date mammogram within the last 12 months is advised to screen the underlying breast tissue for any issues that need resolving prior to embarking on breast uplift surgery.

The total price for the procedure includes the surgical fee, anaesthetic fee and hospital fee and start from £9,000 for bilateral breast mastopexy. Please contact Mr Kenny and the team for further information and to get booked in for an initial consultation.
