Women with large breasts can have many symptoms from the weight and size of their breasts. These include neck, shoulder, and back pain; repeated skin irritation of under breast; interference with sports; and shoulder grooving from bra straps.

Breast reduction is a life-changing procedure for such women. Women feel lighter, more able to do exercises, more confident with improved overall body image. Furthermore, their musculoskeletal symptoms improve significantly after surgery.

The vast majority of women have no serious or life threatening issues during and after breast reduction surgery. But it is important to know that it is a big surgery and associated with extensive wounds and like all surgery under general anaesthesia, can have serious risks.

If you have considered breast reduction surgery and would like to get more information, book a complimentary, no commitment, 15 minute consultation with Mr Ahmed.

Many women develop ptotic (droopiness) and excess skin as a result of childbirth, weight loss, breast feeding, and physiologic breast involution (glandular shrinkage). They are not particularly large breasted but are empty in the upper part with excess skin and dropped breast and nipple below mammary fold. Mastopexy or breast uplift is the procedure designed to correct that.

There are different types of mastopexy, and they are done through different scars. The choice depends on your shape and size and the desired outcome. The four main types from least to most scarring, also generally from least to most uplifting needed, are: Crescent, Round Block (Doughnut mastopexy), vertical scar, and Wise pattern scar (Anchor-shaped).

If you have considered breast uplift surgery and would like to get more information about which option is suited to you, book a complimentary, no commitment, 15 minute consultation with Mr Ahmed.

Women who desire larger, more projected breasts, can choose to have breast augmentation. This is usually achieved with silicone or saline implants. Much less commonly, through autologous (own body fat) fat transfer.

There are different size, shape, and composition of implants. Also, there are different pockets for implants depending on your body shape, amount of breast tissue you have and your wishes.

Breast augmentation can be performed through a mammary fold scar, axillary scar, peri-areolar scar, or trans-umbilical scar(through belly button).

Mr Ahmed’s favourite approach is through inframammary fold. This is a well-hidden scar and provides the best excess to create all different pockets for the implant, namely: sub-glandular, submuscular, or ‘dual-plane’.

If you have considered breast augmentation and would like to get more information about implants and your options, book a complimentary, no commitment, 15 minute consultation with Mr Ahmed.

Many people have long-standing nipple inversion which they would like corrected (everted). There are different ways of doing it depending on whether future breast feeding is desired or not. Most of the time can be performed under local anaesthetic (numbing agent) as a day case procedure.

Gynaecomastia is enlargement of male breast tissue. This can be physiological during puberty and the elderly. However, in some, it persists beyond puberty and can cause low self-esteem and body image.

Most new onset gynaecomastia is caused by medications, or supplements. It is important, however, to see a doctor to make sure rare causes are not missed. After all has been ruled out, then surgery may be considered.

Surgery for gynaecomastia is not covered by the NHS except in exceptional circumstances. Depending on size, degree of excess skin, and glandular composition (fatty or fibrous glandular), there are various surgical options tailored to the individual. These include liposuction, breast gland excision with or without skin, or combined liposuction and surgery.

Accessory breast tissue most often involves the armpits. It presents as a swelling which becomes painful during monthly periods. It can also cause low self-esteem and reluctance to wear sleeveless clothing.

Surgery can remove the swelling, but careful counselling is important to explain possible risks including scarring, chronic pain, and fluid accumulation (seroma). Accessory/supernumerary nipples are fairly common and can be found on armpit, abdomen, all the way down to groin.

In most people extra nipples do not cause any problem or symptoms. If desired, they can be removed surgically under local anaesthetic.
